Liz Grauer, a veterinarian hired to help with the translocation, pets a male deer captured in a net on the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White-Tailed Deer. This deer was captured and transported to the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge on February 12, 2013. Fourteen deer have been captured and transported - they have a target goal of moving 50 deer of the 100 in the Cathlamet population. Previous experience shows that the deer will naturally spread to new habitats as long as they are not crowded, which is why they are only moving half.
