Sculptor Daryl Smith, who originally made the sculpture of Sadako in 1990 and repaired the vandalized piece, checks the alignment to makes sure the bronze piece properly faces east "towards to rising sun (with) a story of hope in the face of adversity." The repaired sculpture of Sadako returned to Peace Park near the northwest end of the University Bridge Monday installed by Seattle Parks & Recreation workers with Smith's assistance.
