Seattle Public School District's Interagency Academy is an inconspicuous network of a dozen or so classroom sites and buildings around town that together serve as high school for some 500 kids who needed an alternative to the mainstream classroom. Holding it all together is a hands-on, highly involved principal, who is determined to right as many of these kids as she can. Principal Kaaren Andrews, center (hands on head) along with intake coordinator Demetrice Wheeler, upper right, and Virginia Metz, far left, and counselor Russell Hibbert (top left) work to sort the kids picking the appropriate school for each student.
