Islandwood: Getting in touch with nature

Jania Flores, front, Blanca Huerta and chaperone Susana Cuevas check their forest maps at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island. Forty-eight middle school children of migrant workers from the Yakima Valley, Forks and Mount Vernon are staying there this week for a science-oriented educational experience at the 255-acre outdoor environmental learning center. It's a non-profit organization funded by donors and grants. Here the students are finding their way on the trails-- a form of orienteering and team building.
