The Pagdiriwang Philippine Festival

From left, Jesse Tiamson of Puyallup, Jose Calugas Jr. of Tacoma, Art Garcia of Lakewood and Rick Seastres of Tacoma bring down the colors after the opening ceremony of the Pagdiriwang Philippine Festival at the Seattle Center Saturday June 9, 2012. The men were in World War II uniforms honoring the Philippine Scouts, of which all of their fathers were members. The Philippine Scouts were originally organized in the Philippines by the U.S. Army to fight in the Philippine Revolution, and were some of the first units to see combat in World War II. Many retained U.S. citizenship through the Army and came to live in America after World War II ended. Garcia's great grandfather was one of the first, known as the Macabebe Scouts. Jose Calugas Jr.'s father, Jose Calugas Sr., was a Philippine Scout and also was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service.
