Odissi: a traditional Indian dance

Shibani Patnaik of Philadelphia gets help inking up her palms and feet from Itu Mohapatra, left, of Seattle, and Reena Mohapatro, right, of Bellevue, while preparing to perform 'Samsara, The Cycle of Life', at the Rainier Valley Cultural Arts Center Sunday April 29, 2012. Itu and Reena are members of The Oriyas of Greater Seattle, a cultural group from Orissa, which brought them here to perform their piece. Orissa, a state in eastern India, is rich in artistic cultural traditions, and is where the dance, called Odissi, originated.
