American Pikas in North Cascades National Park

Pikas are sensitive to temperature change and are regarded as a key indicator species of climate change. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is considering whether pikas should be listed for protection under the Endangered Species Act. This pika was photographed at McAlester Lake at North Cascades National Park as part of a baseline pika population survey underway in the park this summer, funded by Seattle City Light.
