Pix From My Weekend
Artist Point near Mt. Baker
Northwest Weekend photo shows Washington state's Mt. Baker from Artist Ridge, replete with fall colors.
Photographer: Winston Rockwell, Kirkland
Photo taken: Sept. 28, 2008; Artist Point, near Mt. Baker
Photographer's description: "Mt. Baker with fall foliage, viewed from Artist Ridge trail. Taken a week before the road was closed for the season, with a Canon 40D and Tamron 17-35mm lens with graduated ND filter. 3 bracketed exposures processed using Photomatix Pro."
Expert says: "There are many beautiful visual layers within this image because the photographer used a technique called bracketing. He did this by over exposing and then under exposing the scene until he captured the best possible exposure for the natural details present. This approach allowed him to highlight everything from the shaggy trees and bright autumn colors below to Mt. Baker's majestic peaks above."
