Paul Menard wins NASCAR event after Joey Logano has flat tire

Joey Logano’s flat tire with about five laps remaining allowed Paul Menard to win a NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Brooklyn, Mich.

The Associated Press

BROOKLYN, Mich. – Joey Logano was a few laps from apparent victory when, suddenly, holding off Paul Menard wasn’t his main problem.

“I could tell something was wrong on the back straightaway,” Logano said.

Logano’s flat tire with about five laps remaining allowed Menard to win the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250, a NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.

“I hate to give them away like that,” said Logano, who finished 16th. “You look at the silver lining, I guess, which is we had a fast race car and should have won the race.”

Menard, in his first Nationwide start of the season, beat runner-up Sam Hornish Jr. by 0.468 seconds.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished third, and Derrike Cope of Spanaway was 35th of 40.
