Handicaps for Saturday, May 24

Seattle Times handicapper

First three horses listed in each race in order of predicted finish.

Saturday

First race: 2 p.m.

1 41/2 furlongs, purse $13,225, 2-year-old, maiden claiming $25,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
5Bigbadvoodookitty J Gutierrez5/2118
4Gavinator J Matias6118
6Moby G Mitchell4118
1Private Boss F Valdez3118
2Preachinattheforum L Mawing9/2118
3Trygve's Besst I Enriquez7/2118

This is the first race of the year for 2-year-olds. Bigbadvoodookitty has worked out well for her debut and runs for a trainer who can get horses ready for their first starts. Gavinator has some nice workouts, but Matty G’s offspring seldom win in their first starts. Moby could run well for jockey Gallyn Mitchell, who is back in form after recovering from last year’s heart attack.

2 61/2 furlongs, purse $12,700, 3-year-old, claiming $15,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
4Moony Moony I Enriquez4118
5Tribal Mystic L Mawing2118
2Wedgey Time J Gutierrez5/2118
1Spit and Shine J Zunino3118
3Clemkadiddlehopper E Kubinova6118

Moony Moony seems primed for a big race in his third start off a layoff. Tribal Mystic was running well at Golden Gate in Northern California, where he seemed to thrive on the synthetic dirt, and his best races have been on that surface. Wedgey Time looks to begin his career 3 for 3 and beat the top pick in his last race.

3 51/2 furlongs, purse $5,500, 3-year-olds and up, maiden claiming $5,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
3Gold Tie Please L Mawing8/5124
4Some Storm Cat D Lopez5/2118
6Alaazwho R Richard9/2118
1Curried Matt J Zunino6118
2Akutan I Enriquez5118
5Something Magic L Camacho-Flores15124

SCRATCHED: The Prime Mover.

Gold Tie Please was unable to win in 10 tries in California, but he should find this group much more to his liking. Some Storm Cat has been in the money in six of eight career starts. Alaazwho can improve in his second start.

4 6 furlongs, purse $5,100, 3-year-olds and up, claiming $2,500
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
4Shuddle R Richard4121
1Expenses Paid D Lopez2121
5Niccolo's Dancer J Rosales6121
2Medicinegoin'down L Mawing5/2118
3Wild Again Shamus J Zunino15121
6Our Sella A Sanguinetti5118
7Last Defense E Kubinova12115
8Lots of Prayers L Gonzalez12121

Shuddle improved a lot in his second start of the year and can win this with another step forward. Expenses Paid will likely be in the money, but he seems to lack the will to win and was a well-beaten second at 3-5 in his last race. Niccolo’s Dancer was third of nine in his last race, and a length behind the second pick.

5 6 furlongs, purse $5,900, 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, claiming $4,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
6House of Hope J Gutierrez3123
2Cool Toddy L Mawing5/2123
3Anitewithyou R Richard7/2120
1Wave Rider G Mitchell10120
4Parkers Gibsongirl E Kubinova12123
5Sydney On My Mind J Rosales6120

SCRATCHED: The Doll Room.

House of Hope takes a slight jump up in class after a nice win. Cool Toddy has been in good form at Turf Paradise in Phoenix. Anitewithyou makes his first start of the year and he should be ready, as he opened his career with two consecutive victories last year.

6 61/2 furlongs, purse $5,100, 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, claiming $2,500
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
2Come On Cozzene L Mawing6120
1American Council F Valdez9/2120
5Claudia's Cahill I Enriquez7/2123
3Appealing Artie R Richard12123
4Milieux J Gutierrez15120
6Midnight Maggie L Camacho-Flores15120
7Tribal Valentine E Kubinova3123
8Parker's Pearl D Lopez20120
9Chips Indy Salsa J Zunino20120
10Nobluffjustgo R Bowen8123
11Reflective Glory A Sanguinetti8117

A bad start made Come On Cozzene work hard to get the early lead in her last race. She might be able to lead from gate to wire with a better beginning. American Council has been in the money in seven consecutive races. Claudia’s Cahill could improve in her second try against winners.

7 1 mile, purse $10,500, 3-year-olds and up, claiming $10,000/$8,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
2He's a Cruiser L Mawing3120
1Memphis Mobster D Lopez7/2120
4Surprise Sale R Richard5/2117
3Secret Harbor J Gutierrez10114
5Parkers Bluff R Bowen4124
6Carl Command L Gonzalez6120
7Sammartino I Enriquez10120

He’s a Cruiser was easily the best in his last race, as he had nowhere to go for a long time before finally finding a hole and rallying for the win. Memphis Mobster has done well at a mile and gets a good post for this distance. Surprise Sale has won seven of 11 career starts.

8 6 furlongs, purse $10,300, 3-year-olds and up, claiming $12,500/$10,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
6Belt R Bowen2124
1Brock Says D Lopez3121
7Financial Officer J Whitaker8121
2Del Siete Leguas L Mawing5121
3Improviso I Enriquez6121
4Regal Valid R Richard15118
5Big Black Cat F Valdez6121

SCRATCHED: Bound to Win, Direct Cost.

Belt should rebound with the drop in class. Brock Says rarely runs a bad race. Financial Officer is usually in the money.

9 1 mile, purse $6,950, 3-year-olds and up, maiden claiming $8,000
PPHorseJockeyLineWt.
3Square Jimmer J Gutierrez2118
6Its Guiness Time R Richard5118
2Nitro Road J Zunino5/2124
1Cowboy Cocktail R Bowen10124
4Nosetodagrindstone G Mitchell4118
5Legs of Thunder P Fernandez20118
7Nacho Macho J Matias8118

SCRATCHED: Private Ride, Everydayimhustlin.

Square Jimmer will try to lead from gate to wire. Its Guiness Time drops in class. Nitro Road finished ahead of the top pick in his last race.

BEST BET: Belt
