LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Untapable gave jockey Rosie Napravnik her second Kentucky Oaks victory in three years, surging past runner-up My Miss Sophia entering the stretch and winning by 4½ lengths Friday at Churchill Downs.

Untapable ran 11 / 8 miles in 1 minute, 48.68 seconds — the second-fastest time in a Kentucky Oaks at that distance — in the $1 million race for 3-year-old fillies. The Steve Asmussen-trained filly paid $4 to win in the Grade I race that attracted a crowd of 113,071.

Asmussen is being investigated by Kentucky and New York racing officials after the animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals alleged he and his former assistant mistreated horses in their care. Asmussen sidestepped the PETA matter, choosing instead to focus on his filly’s victory.

Winchell Thoroughbreds racing manager David Fiske conceded the attention was “a little bit” of a distraction to the Untapable camp, adding, “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t.”

Untapable raced to her third straight victory and fifth in seven starts.

Napravnik became the first woman to ride a Kentucky Oaks winner when Believe You Can prevailed in 2012.

Asmussen sent out Summerly to win the 2005 Oaks.
