Chu and You wins Shinpoch Stakes; Wasserman will retire

Chu and You raced to a 2½-length victory over Strawberry Dawn in the $49,500 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Emerald Downs in Auburn.

The exceptionally quick Chu and You used her speed to bag another stakes victory Sunday at Emerald Downs.

Under Juan Gutierrez, Chu and You raced to a 2½-length victory over Strawberry Dawn in the $49,500 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

Chu and You ran 6½ furlongs in 1:17.

Note

Wasserman was pulled up in Sunday’s seventh race and trainer Howard Belvoir said the Auburn track’s all-time leading earner was in no distress.

According to Belvoir, the 11-year-old gelding and 2008 Longacres Mile winner suffered a bowed tendon in his left front leg and is retired from racing.

Wasserman earned $575,024 and was 13-13-13 in 71 starts.
