Sunday

First race: 2 p.m.

1 5 furlongs, purse $6,725, 3-year-old, maiden claiming $7,500
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
8 Come On Partner J Torres 5/2 122
7 Quinter R Richard 5 122
3 White River Pirate J Zunino 7/2 122
1 Cinchmeup R Bowen 8 122
2 Playsummusic D Hoonan 8 122
4 Jimmyolson J Gutierrez 9/2 122
5 Tahoe's Prize D Lopez 12 122
6 I'm Still Owen Camacho-Flrs 8 122

Come On Partner was second against maiden allowance horses in Portland in his lone race, in November, and has been working out well for a solid trainer, Charles Essex. Quinter makes his career debut for Chris Stenslie, who does well with first-time starters. White River Pirate was second twice in six starts at Emerald last year.

2 5 ½ furlongs, purse $17,850, 3-year-old, maiden special weight
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
1 Botch D Lopez 3 122
3 Ankeny Hill J Gutierrez 4 122
2 More Strawberries I Enriquez 7/2 122
4 He's Not Bluffin J Torres 5/2 122
5 Direct Cost J Whitaker 9/2 122
6 Financial Officer J Matias 8 122

Botch, a $35,000 yearling purchase at the 2011 Keeneland (Ky.) sale, ran a couple of decent races last summer for trainer Tim McCanna, who has won 10 training titles at Emerald. Ankeny Hill has been working out well for his career debut, and it's a good sign that Juan Gutierrez, last year's riding champ, has the mount. More Strawberries had a strong 6-furlong workout on April 11, and his career debut last year was decent.

3 5 ½ furlongs, purse $6,825, 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, WCL $5,000
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
1 Roarified J Gutierrez 9/5 123
2 Grand Baylee J Torres 5 123
7 Have'n a Wild Time E Kubinova 4 123
3 Port Wakefield J Whitaker 6 123
4 Its Diva Time T Gutierrez 12 123
5 Ducoti R Richard 5/2 123
6 Cheeza Kay Camacho-Flrs 12 123

Roarified has won seven of her 11 career starts. She is better at longer distances, but she has won at shorter distances as well. Grand Baylee is almost always close at the end, and finished first or second in eight of her 11 starts last year. Have'n a Wild Time was in the money in seven of 10 races last year at Emerald.

4 5 ½ furlongs, purse $4,725, 3-year-olds and up, WCL $2,500
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
7 Itsafineredwine G Mitchell 5/2 124
2 One Lucky Hoss D Hoonan 4 124
3 Adriatic Princ M Hagerty 6 124
1 Molto J Torres 15 124
4 Taphar T Gutierrez 8 124
5 Im Pure Brass J Gutierrez 7/2 124
6 Kinzie's King J Matias 3 124
There is a lot of early speed in this race, so it might set up well for a closer like Itsafineredwine. One Lucky Hoss should be very competitive at this level. Adriatic Princ was third five times in 11 starts at Emerald last year.
5 6 furlongs, purse $5,675, 3-year-olds and up, claiming $3,500
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
1 Mufaajy M Hagerty 3 121
2 El Gran Bebe J Gutierrez 5 121
4 Immigration J Whitaker 4 121
3 El Tango Ray A Snguinetti 5/2 121
5 Armed Service D Hoonan 8 121
6 Passion Lives Here J Matias 10 121
7 Warrior Jon Camacho-Flrs 12 121
8 Fighting City Hall J Torres 10 121
In a wide-open race, Mufaajy gets a slight nod based on his consistency (5 wins and 14 in-the-money finishes in 18 starts at Emerald). El Gran Bebe might get the early lead, and he is shortening up in distance for this. Immigration seems to have an aversion to winning, but he was third in eight starts at Emerald last year.
6 5 ½ furlongs, purse $7,775, 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, claiming $7,500
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
2 Bella Angelina J Whitaker 6 123
1 La Chispa J Gutierrez 3 123
4 Pretty Darn Good J Zunino 5/2 123
3 She's Tops Camacho-Flrs 10 123
5 Ms Eagle Eye D Lopez 9/2 123
6 Wings of Pegasus G Mitchell 8 123
7 Our Pretty Woman R Bowen 5 123
8 Forty Something D Hoonan 8 123
Bella Angelina might be the early leader in this paceless race, and that makes her dangerous. La Chispa will be rallying late. Pretty Darn Good is good enough to win if she gets into a good stalking position.
7 5 ½ furlongs, purse $4,725, 3-year-olds and up, WCL $2,500
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
2 Just Say It A Snguinetti 2 124
1 Freedomslastknight D Hoonan 8 124
4 Newaukum Creek J Zunino 8 124
3 Bebe Chrissy Camacho-Flrs 6 124
5 Doctor Pav C Papineau 10 124
6 Win Photos Will Do I Enriquez 5/2 124
7 It's Our Pleasure J Whitaker 9/2 124
Just Say It has been in pretty good form at Turf Paradise in Phoenix, and a repeat of his last race is probably good enough to win this. Freedomslastknight and Newaukum Creek could surprise as the rest of the horses in this field are route horses who much prefer longer distances than this.
8 5 ½ furlongs, purse $18,900, 3-year-old, Allowance
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
3 Finallygotabentley J Gutierrez 8/5 122
1 Forin Sea I Enriquez 3 122
4 Country Rules D Hoonan 5/2 122
2 Scat Daddybaby D Lopez 4 122
5 Bound to Win J Torres 5 122
Finallygotabentley is bred to be great and showed promise last year. He will be a deserving short-price favorite. Forin Sea improved in each of his three starts as a 2-year-old. Country Rules finished right behind the top pick in a stakes last year.
9 5 ½ furlongs, purse $21,000, 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, Allowance
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
5 E Z Kitty A Snguinetti 8/5 121
1 Exclusive Diva J Gutierrez 2 119
2 Smokin' Grey I Enriquez 6 119
3 You Me and Ema B D Hoonan 7/2 119
4 Carrabelle Harbor D Lopez 4 119
E Z Kitty has won 6 of 10 starts at Emerald Downs, including stakes wins the past two years. She should be extra tough at this distance. Exclusive Diva is a three-time stakes winner at Emerald, and she will test the top pick. Smokin' Grey was impressive here last year, winning her final three starts at Emerald.
10 5 ½ furlongs, purse $5,350, 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares, maiden claiming weight for age $5,000
PP Horse Jockey Line Wt.
1 Miss Kelso J Torres 12 123
7 Kilauea J Whitaker 3 123
2 Kendall Christine D Lopez 5/2 123
3 Steffie Du Bois J Gutierrez 4 123
4 On Line Sweetie R Bowen 15 123
5 Plan a Game D Hoonan 6 123
6 Seatabo R Richard 7/2 123
This is a tough race as most of these horses have had plenty of chances to win their first race, and have failed. Miss Kelso was at her best early in season last year at Emerald, and she has some early speed. She should go off at a nice price. Kilauea was second and third in her only two lifetime starts last year at Emerald. Kendall Christine was in the money in four of her last five starts last year.

BEST BET: Finallygotabentley
