Warren Moon, Drew Bledsoe, Ed Pepple among state hall of fame inductees
The 2012 class will be inducted into the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame Sunday at CenturyLink Field before the Seahawks' game against Minnesota.
Retired quarterbacks Warren Moon and Drew Bledsoe, and retired basketball coach Ed Pepple will be among those inducted into the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame Sunday at CenturyLink Field before the Seahawks' game against Minnesota.
Moon, a former Washington Husky who is the color commentator on Seahawks broadcasts, is already in both the NFL and Canadian Football League halls.
Pepple is the winningest basketball coach in state high-school history with a 952-306 record. He coached for 52 years, including 42 as head coach at Mercer Island.
Bledsoe, from Walla Walla, was a standout quarterback at Washington State before becoming the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft and playing professionally for 14 years.
Other members of the 2012 class are jockey Russell Baze, soccer coach Cliff McCrath and the late Emil Sick, owner of the Seattle Rainiers.
• Washington's men's team finished its fall season by beating Michigan 14 ½ to 9 ½ in the Ryder Cup-style Stanford Classic at Cypress Point Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. Gerrit Chambers, Charlie Hughes and Chris Williams swept their matches for the Huskies.
• Seattle University closed its fall women's season with a 10th-place finish in the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational in Arroyo Grande, Calif. Clare Sorensen tied for 25th for the Redhawks. Gonzaga won the team championship.
Western Washington goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs, who set conference records for shutouts in a season (14) and career (37), was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's Player of the Year. WWU teammates Kristin Maris and Brina Sych and Seattle Pacific's Megan Lindsay and Shayla Page also made the first team.
Washington State earned a 67-52 exhibition victory over visiting Simon Fraser. The Cougars forced 33 turnovers. Freshman Lia Galdeira led WSU with 12 points.
