KIRKLAND — Host Kirkland was one of three teams to improve to 2-0 in pool play in the Junior League Softball World Series on Tuesday at Everest Park.
Kirkland earned a 3-1 victory over Honaker, Va., to become the only team in Pool A to stay unbeaten. Kirkland scored two runs in the seventh inning, including the go-ahead run on Brynn Radke's RBI single, plating Alex Hanger, who also singled. Tori Bivens allowed two hits and had 11 strikeouts for the win.
In Pool B, Latin American regional champ Maunabo, Puerto Rico, improved to 2-0 with a 7-4 victory over Eagle Pass, Texas.
Also in Pool B, West champion Nunaka Valley, Alaska, downed West Haven, Conn., 8-5 to improve to 2-0. Nunaka Valley's Taria Page hit for the cycle and drove in two runs.
Pool play continues Wednesday and Thursday, with semifinals Friday and the championship Saturday.
