Ex-Sonics assistant Stotts
to coach Trail Blazers
Terry Stotts, a former Sonics assistant, has been hired to coach the Portland Trail Blazers.
Stotts, 54, spent the past four seasons as an assistant with Dallas. He has coached the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks and has an NBA record of 115-168.
Stotts replaces Kaleb Canales, who went 8-15 in an interim role with Portland after Nate McMillan — a former Sonics guard and coach — was fired.
"Terry is one of the elite offensive minds in the NBA, has extensive experience with multiple organizations and was instrumental in the Dallas Mavericks winning the 2011 NBA championship," Blazers general manager Neil Olshey said.

Allmendinger says he tested
positive for Adderall
Suspended NASCAR driver A.J. Allmendinger says he tested positive for a prescription drug typically used to treat attention deficit disorder.
Allmendinger, in an interview with ESPN, said he took Adderall a couple of days before a race at Kentucky Speedway on June 30 because he was tired. He does not have ADHD or a prescription for the drug.
He said a friend gave him the pill, telling him it was a workout supplement that would give him energy. Two days later, Allmendinger was randomly tested at the racetrack.
Allmendinger, 30, is going through NASCAR's Road to Recovery program.

Twitter is subpoenaed
after Tyson show threatened
The New York Police Department has used a subpoena to force Twitter to disclose information about the source of a tweet saying "people are gonna die" at the Broadway theater staging a one-man show by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
The NYPD sought the subpoena after Twitter declined to cooperate in a probe of posts referencing the shooting deaths of 12 people last month at a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said.
Police said the tweets appeared aimed at the audience for "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth," the solo show directed by Spike Lee at the Longacre Theater in Manhattan.
Police said part of one tweet read "I'm serious people are gonna die just like in aurora."
Browne said the NYPD has increased security at the Longacre Theatre as a precaution.

Thunder roars as Woods
speaks at Kiawah Island
Tiger Woods was speaking at a news conference at the course hosting the PGA Championship, but the boom of thunder overhead did not let him be heard. Then the 14-time major champion was trying to listen to questions, but rain pounding on the roof did not let him hear.
"Huh?" a relaxed Woods shouted, cupping a hand to his ear. "What? What's that?"
Thunderstorms and rain are in the forecast this week along the South Carolina coastline, something that could bring frequent interruptions of play and perhaps have a significant effect on the outcome.
The last of this year's four major tournaments on the PGA Tour starts Thursday on the tough Ocean Course in Kiawah Island.

• The NCAA, Major League Baseball, NBA, NHL and NFL sued New Jersey, saying the state's plan to allow sports betting violates federal law and threatens the "character and integrity" of sporting events.
• In a swap of Major League Soccer goalkeepers, the Portland Timbers dealt starter Troy Perkins, 31, to expansion team Montreal for Donovan Ricketts.
Ricketts, 35, was an MLS All-Star for the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2009 and 2010.
