Seattle's Denise Dy falls in State Open tennis final | NW Briefs

Giuliana Olmos knocked off top seed Denise Dy of Seattle 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday at the Seattle Tennis Club for the women's open singles championship.

Giuliana Olmos knocked off top seed Denise Dy of Seattle 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday at the Seattle Tennis Club for the women's open singles championship in the Washington State Open.

Olmos, from Fremont, Calif., was seeded third.

Dy, who recently finished her career at the University of Washington, teamed with Dea Sumantri to win the doubles final, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Suzanne Matzenauer and Irina Tereschenko.

In men's open singles, eighth-seeded Brian Battistone of Las Vegas, Nev., beat No. 2 Rudolf Siwy of Fresno, Calif., 6-3, 7-5 for the title.

Battistone also won the men's doubles championship with partner Trevor Dobson, beating Luke and Clancy Shields, 7-6, 7-6.

team wins again

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Matt Boissoneault, Alex Shanks and Jack Smith each had two hits as Mercer Island beat Billings, Mont., 13-3 in four innings at the Little League Baseball Northwest Regional.

Mercer Island (2-0) plays Post Falls, Idaho, Monday.

Boissoneault tripled and scored twice. Parker Simpson doubled and drove in two runs and Justin Ho had two RBI for Mercer Island, which scored eight in the first inning.

In Ontario, Calif., Stilly Valley of Arlington finished pool play at the Senior League Baseball (ages 13-16) Western Regional with a game against Sunnyvale, Calif.
