Trainer Dave Bennett will have two chances to win the $50,000 Premio Esmeralda Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings Sunday at Emerald Downs in Auburn.
One of his two in the eight-horse field is Master's Bluff, who won by a nose in the Slewdledo Stakes on July 13, the first stakes of the year for 2-year-old males.
Master's Bluff will be ridden again by Rocco Bowen and is the 7-2 third choice on the morning line.
Bennett also trains Gilmore, who recorded the highest Beyer Speed Figure in the field when he won on July 14. Bennett said he expects both geldings to run well Sunday.
"I think both are big, powerful-looking horses," Bennett said. "I asked our gallop boy Dan Brock who was better, and he couldn't pull them apart either. I guess we'll have to see what happens Sunday."
The morning-line favorite at 5-2 is the Jim Penney-trained Scat Daddybaby, who beat Master's Bluff in June in his only career race. Finallygotabentley has been second in each of his two starts and is the second choice at 3-1.
