UW golfer Cheng-Tsung Pan ties for 21st

University of Washington golfer Cheng-Tsung Pan shot a 2-over 74 in the final round of the Southern Amateur Championship in Little Rock, Ark.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — University of Washington golfer Cheng-Tsung Pan shot a 2-over 74 in the final round of the Southern Amateur Championship on Saturday to finish tied for 21st place at 3-over 291.

Pan, a freshman All-American at UW this year, was 15 shots off the pace set by Peter Williamson and Bobby Wyatt. Williamson won the championship on the third playoff hole.

Pan shot 2-under 34 on the front nine at Chenal Country Club but was 4-over 40 on the back nine.

• William "Lone Star" Dietz, who coached at Washington State from 1915-17, was enshrined posthumously in the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind. Dietz was a teammate of Jim Thorpe at the Carlisle Indian School before coaching WSU to a 17-2-1 record, including a Rose Bowl win.
