Arizona shuts out UCLA,

improves to 2-0 at CWS

Sophomore Konner Wade pitched a five-hit shutout as Arizona beat Pac-12 rival UCLA 4-0 in a College World Series game Sunday night in Omaha, Neb.

Arizona (45-17) is one victory from advancing to the best-of-three CWS final.

UCLA (48-15), which lost for the first time in 11 games, will play Florida State (49-16) in an elimination game Tuesday.

"It's all about taking blows at the College World Series," UCLA coach John Savage said. "It's not a dagger. It's a blow. We'll move on and we'll be ready to play on Tuesday night."

Florida State crushed Stony Brook of New York 12-2 in a loser-out game.

Germany, Portugal reach Euro 2012 quarterfinals

Three-time champion Germany and Portugal reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2012 by winning matches in Ukraine.

Lars Bender scored in the 80th minute to give Germany a 2-1 victory over Denmark in Lviv.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo scored both of Portugal's goals in a 2-1 decision over the Netherlands in Kharkiv.

In quarterfinal matches in Poland, Portugal will face the Czech Republic on Thursday in Warsaw and Germany will play Greece on Friday in Gdansk.

Galaxy beats Portland

Todd Dunivant scored in the 61st minute on an assist from David Beckham as the host Los Angeles Galaxy beat Portland 1-0. The Galaxy snapped a seven-match Major League Soccer winless streak.

Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders played for the first time since April 21 and made four saves. He missed seven games because he was in the MLS substance-abuse and behavioral-health program.

In another MLS match, the Chicago Fire beat the visiting New York Red Bulls 3-1.

WNBA

Tulsa gets first victory

Rookie Riquna Williams scored 15 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead host Tulsa to an 87-75 victory over the Phoenix Mercury, giving the Shock its first victory of the season.

Temeka Johnson of the Shock (1-9) scored 13 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter against her former team. Tulsa had lost 15 straight after beating Connecticut 83-72 in August.

In another league game, Tina Charles contributed 23 points and a season-high 22 rebounds to lead the visiting Connecticut Sun to a 75-73 victory over Atlanta.

Charles closed out scoring by making two free throws with 3.1 seconds left.

Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry, the league's leading scorer, missed the game because of a sprained left knee.

Nalbandian loses final

after injuring line judge

The Queen's Club final in London was halted abruptly when David Nalbandian of Argentina injured a line judge, handing the title to Marin Cilic of Croatia.

Nalbandian won the first set 7-6 (7-3) and was behind 3-4 in the second set when he kicked a barrier surrounding the line judge in anger. A piece of the barrier hit the line judge, causing bleeding on his left shin, and the chair umpire decided to end the match.

ATP rules state any violent action will result in an automatic default.

Nalbandian admitted making a mistake but added, "I didn't feel it had to end like that, especially in a final."

Haas knocks off Federer

Wild card Tommy Haas of Germany defeated five-time champion Roger Federer of Switzerland 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to win the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, for the second time.

The 34-year-old Haas, ranked 87th in the world, was the oldest player in the singles draw. Federer is 30.

Elsewhere

• American Melanie Oudin will play Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the rain-delayed Aegon Classic final Monday in Birmingham, England. Oudin, 20, has received a Wimbledon wild-card spot.

• The agent for John Velazquez said the 40-year-old jockey broke his right collarbone in a spill Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

Angel Cordero Jr. said Velazquez also might have injured a kidney. Velazquez's mount, Mr. Producer, broke down in the stretch and the rider was thrown forward and kicked while on the ground by a trailing horse. Mr. Producer, a 4-year-old colt, was euthanized.

Velazquez, who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in August, likely will miss four to six weeks, The New York Times reported.
