PASCO — Collin Slaybaugh, a sophomore catcher from Emerald Ridge High in Puyallup, had a two-run single in the sixth inning as Washington State rallied Tuesday for a 4-2 victory over the University of Portland.

Slaybaugh had two of the Cougars' 12 hits. WSU (24-20) entered the sixth inning down 2-0, but scored four times with Taylor Ard and Tommy Richards also driving in runs against the Pilots (23-17).

Sandy Vaughan, a junior out of O'Dea, had a 3-under par 69 and Nick Varelia, a senior from Kentwood, a 2-under 70, to help Western Washington move up one spot to fifth going into the final round of NCAA Division II Central/West Regional in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

• The Seattle Thunderbirds acquired 20-year-old goalie Brandon Glover from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a third-round choice in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Last season with the Hitmen, Glover had a 20-12-0-0 record with a 3.11 goals-against average.

• The Everett Silvertips acquired four prospects from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for the rights to defenseman Seth Jones. The Silvertips receive 1994-born defensemen Reece Willcox and Ben Betker and 1996-born forwards Tyler Sandhu and Mitch Skapski.

• Northwest University senior Jason Waltman finished third in the decathlon at the Multi Events Meet at Lynchburg College in Virginia, setting an NU school record with 6,315 points. His biggest point total the second day came in the 400 meters where his 52.09 time was worth 721 points.
