BERKELEY, Calif. — The third-ranked Washington softball team lost a doubleheader at top-ranked California, 5-3 and 6-4, on Sunday.

The Huskies (32-4, 3-3 Pac-12) dropped all three weekend games to the Bears (33-1, 6-0).

"Overall this was a good weekend for us," said coach Heather Tarr. "Cal has great pitching and I thought we competed well at the plate. We take a lot of good learning opportunities with us as we continue on in Pac-12 play."

In the opener, Valerie Arioto held the Huskies to four hits in seven innings, striking out nine.

In Game 2, Jolene Henderson pitched a complete game for Cal, allowing four runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts.

UW baseball loses

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Washington baseball team scored three early unearned runs, but 22nd-ranked Oregon State came back to beat the Huskies, 5-3, at a rainy Goss Stadium.

The Huskies (16-8, 3-3 Pac-12) entered the ninth inning down two runs, and loaded the bases with one out. But Beavers closer Tony Bryant got a strikeout and a ground out to end the game and earn his fifth save.

Rowing

The Washington women's varsity eight bore the brunt of a fierce crosswind and struggled to a third-place finish in the battle for the Jessop-Whittier Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic.

The Huskies' time of 7 minutes, 10.86 seconds trailed winner USC (7:03.93) and Virginia (7:06.79).

"There was some pretty heavy water out there," Huskies coach Bob Ernst said. "I thought we did the best we could do with the conditions."

Other softball

Seattle University (10-17, 3-1 Pacific Coast Softball Conference) split two games with Idaho State in Pocatello, falling 4-2 in eight innings in Game 1, and winning the second, 5-3.

• Stephanie Fox pitched a four-hit shutout and drove in the only run as Western Washington upset 20th-ranked UC San Diego, 1-0, on the final day of the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.

The Vikings (8-25) lost their finale, 4-3, in the consolation bracket to rival Central Washington (12-19), which also posted a 4-2 win over Cal State Stanislaus.

Other baseball

Royce Bolinger hit home runs in back-to-back at-bats and drove in four runs for Gonzaga (18-7, 2-1 West Coast) in a 14-3 win over Pepperdine in Spokane.

• Washington State's game against USC in Pullman was postponed due to weather. The game has been rescheduled for noon Monday.

Golf

The Washington men shot a 3-over-par 283 in the final round of the U.S. Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif., and ended up fifth out of 17 teams at 23-over 863. Chris Williams led the Huskies by finishing tied for 12th at 3-over 213.

• The Washington women finished tied for 14th out of 17 teams after the final round of the wind-swept PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The Huskies shot 28-over 312 in the final round and finished at 54 over. Sadena Parks led the Huskies' individual efforts, tying for 24th at 8-over 221.
