The Washington Huskies on Sunday received a commitment from linebacker/running back Ryan McDaniel of North Torrance (Calif.) High, according to several Internet reports.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound McDaniel chose Washington over offers from Arizona and Arizona State, among others. He is the 18th known commitment for UW's class of 2012 and reportedly could end up on either side of the ball.

McDaniel, who visited Washington in October, had recently visited Oregon before deciding to commit to the Huskies. He is from the same city as UW coach Steve Sarkisian, and told Scout.com his relationship with UW coaches was a key factor in deciding to commit to Washington.

Curling

Seattle's Sharon Vukich rink dropped a 6-4 decision to Wisconsin's Pam Oleinik rink, losing on the last shot of the USA Curling Senior Women's National Championships in Grafton, N.D. Vukich was trying for her third consecutive U.S. women's senior title.

Swimming

For the second straight day, Seattle University's Jordan Anderson and Joe Wertz posted season-best times at the Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center. Wertz posted a time of 1 minute, 49.21 seconds in the 200 backstroke, and Anderson swam a 45.26 in the 100 freestyle.
