Cougars to replace offensive line coach
Washington State has decided against renewing the contract of offensive line coach Harold Etheridge, 50.
Washington State has decided against renewing the contract of offensive line coach Harold Etheridge, 50.
The Cougars have struggled mightily on offense in each of head coach Paul Wulff's first two years, averaging 241.1 yards in total offense in 2008 and 246.9 in 2009. A rushing offense that averaged 95.1 last year dropped to 70.7 this season.
WSU was hit by multiple injuries on the offensive line in 2009, going against Oregon in October with their Nos. 6 and 7 offensive guards.
Etheridge came to WSU from Northern Illinois. He hadn't previously been a full-time coach at a BCS-conference school.
The Spokesman-Review in Spokane reports one possible candidate for the job is Steve Morton, who played at WSU in the early 1970s.
Hockey
• Saskatoon defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 in Western Hockey League action in front of 4,032 at the ShoWare Center in Kent. The T-birds (13-20-2-4) were down four goals after two periods but rallied and scored three goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period. Branden Troock made his WHL debut in the game and had an assist on Seattle's third goal.
Basketball
• Chris Banchero had 22 points for Seattle Pacific, but Colorado Christian (2-7) hit 14 shots from three-point range to upset the Falcons 73-69 in the final game of the Falcons Invitational in Brougham Pavilion. It was the first loss of the season for SPU (9-1). Guard Brandon Larrieu (Puyallup) added 18 points.
• The Central Washington men cruised to a 96-61 victory over Academy of Art University in the Falcons Invitational. Shane Miller came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points in just 15 minutes of action.
