Jake Locker wins top UW football award

Junior quarterback Jake Locker won the Guy Flaherty Award, the Washington football program's most prestigious team award, at the team's postseason dinner.

Jake Locker won the Guy Flaherty Award, the Washington football program's top team award, and Chris Polk, Donald Butler and Erik Folk won MVP honors at the team's awards dinner Wednesday night at the Westin Hotel.

Locker, a junior quarterback, returned from an injury-shortened 2008 season to start every game this season. He passed for 2,800 yards, third-most in UW history.

Polk, a redshirt freshman running back, and Butler, a senior linebacker, were named most valuable players on offense and defense, respectively. Folk, a sophomore kicker, was the special-teams MVP.

Claire Ely had 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in Puget Sound's 70-60 women's victory over Saint Martin's. Jocelyn Riordan scored 17 for the Loggers.

Kindra Carlson, Jenna Hagglund and Bianca Rowland of Washington were named to the 14-player All-Pacific Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
