Downhill skier Scott Macartney of Kirkland is facing a long injury layoff for the second consecutive year.
Downhill skier Scott Macartney of Kirkland is facing a long injury layoff for the second consecutive year.
Macartney, expected to arrive back home in the United States on Monday, will be treated for a knee injury suffered in a crash during Saturday's classic Lauberhorn race at Wengen, Switzerland.
He will miss the Hahnenkahm race Saturday in Kitzbuehel where he had a horrific crash at nearly 90 mph last year.
"This is a tough one because everything was clicking with my skiing," Macartney said Monday, his 31st birthday, in a statement issued by the U.S. Ski team.
He crashed on the demanding Lauberhorn hill after falling back on his skis when landing a jump. The extent of damage to his left knee is not yet known.
