It's hard not to root for the Canadians

On Tuesday my family and I attended the ladies snowboard cross on Cypress Mountain. When we arrived the weather was terrible. It was raining and foggy and we had been informed on the bus ride up that the event was delayed an hour. After going through security, a volunteer offered my daughter a poncho to wear as it was obvious by the look on her face and the whining coming out of her mouth that she was not enjoying the cold, wet weather.

As we were walking up to the stands, my wife needed to find a bathroom to change our daughter. After being escorted to a bathroom for changing children, my wife ran into a volunteer who offered to take us to a warming tent where we could get out of the rain. We were escorted to the tent where we were able to stay dry, sit down, and my daughter was able to run around with some other kids.

While we were warming up in the tent we were informed that the event would be delayed another hour. Eventually we made our way up to our seats and after numerous delays during the event due to the fog, my wife and daughter once again had to make a trip to change my daughter.

On their way back to the seats, an Olympic volunteer offered to carry my 23-pound, 18-month-old daughter up the estimated 250 steps. I couldn't believe that. I had a hard time carrying myself up those steps and certainly wouldn't have volunteered to carry a child that wasn't of my own blood.

After Lindsey Jacobellis didn't make it into the Big Final, it really left us no choice but to root for Canadian Maellee Ricker, especially after the way the Canadians treated us.
