Can't resist those Canadian mittens

I've been looking online at the Olympic Store on the Vancouver 2010 website and I have a confession to make...I really like these red mittens.

However, there is a problem. The problem of course is the big Maple Leaf on them. Look, I've got nothing against Canadians. They've given us John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, caffeine-free Mountain Dew (yes really, look for it in Vancouver when you are up there), a cheap place to shoot movies and TV shows and half of Niagara Falls. But this is the Olympics. Besides all the goodwill and countries coming together for the spirit of competition stuff, this is: "my country's athletes are better then your country's athletes." This is: "athletes from my county will snowboard faster, ski jump longer, shoot a puck better, do a triple axle higher then your country's athletes can do, and we will be wearing so much gold, Mr. T will be envious." This isn't the time to buy red mittens because I like how they look, when the proceeds from these same mittens happen to help support Canadian athletes.

So I continue looking through the many products at the Olympic Store. There are pins, there are cowbells, there is an official Olympic Jacket for your dog. However there are no blue mittens with the stars and strips on them, but I'll make do. I'll get my daughter a temporary USA tattoo, my wife a team USA scarf, and myself, I'll be looking for one of these—and I'll keep the red mittens hidden until the train stops.
