Background checks good in theory, problematic to implement

Danny Westneat, I’d be interested to see how universal background checks would be done, especially if it included private sales [“Reason joins gun-rights debate,” NWSunday, Feb. 3].

As a comparison, have you tried our country’s absurd E-Verify system that’s required of employers to do a “work authorization check” for newly hired employees? If it’s that hard for a business to do the federal government’s dirty work of immigration control, is there no wonder companies prefer to outsource and work with contractors?

The idea of the gun-sale check may seem OK, but the implementation is sure to disappoint.
