Tech companies should support education

Hidden on the Business page is Brian Dudley’s article, “High-Tech expects tax breaks while education funding suffers” [Jan 28]. It is galling that Microsoft keeps demanding that the state improve the educational system while Microsoft and other tech companies did not pay $249.8 million in sales taxes in 2011, which is almost the same as Gregoire’s education-funding plan.

The people of Washington state should demand that the tech companies pay their fair share of taxes. Then maybe our education system would not be underfunded. To add insult to injury, Microsoft keeps saying that they need to go outside the country to find the qualified workers that they need.
