Inmate expresses regret about Southcenter shooting

Armed citizens, not police, cause concern

Thank you for highlighting the dangers of easy access to guns by placing the excellent piece, “Common Triggers,” on the front page [Jan. 24].

Sharing facts on a regular basis, keeping the issue of gun safety in the public eye, is the responsibility of the press. Names and faces of the victims of gun violence keeps us all mindful of the thousands we needlessly lose annually. I am much more concerned about being a victim from a stranger than from my government or any law enforcement official.

Perhaps the Second Amendment righters need to keep reading. Our Third Amendment states that we are not obliged to quarter any soldier. I’m not worried about the armed police, only the armed citizens out there, some of whom have short fuses.

--Ann Mitchell, Kenmore
