GOP aims to revitalize party

Republican Party is in trouble

“GOP conference looks to strengthen and rebuild the party,” reads the headline of an article about how the Republicans can gain more power in our state [NWSaturday, Jan. 26]. Reading on, we quickly find out that the plan may include rigging the election by changing the way Electoral College votes are counted, changing the way the GOP talks about the issues, and become the “happy-warrior party” instead of being negative or gloomy.

Missing from these ideas seems to be understanding that the people of Washington, and indeed America, want more from a political party than window dressing and the ability to steal elections.

The article goes on to say that the conference agenda will include sessions of how to take on public-sector unions. Who, besides oligarchs, are asking for Republicans to destroy unions that help create good-paying jobs for their members and lift wage standards even in nonunion jobs? Good wages for the middle class drive our economy, duh. Shouldn’t building a strong economy be a goal?

It is becoming more and more clear, as the ill-informed and uninformed wake up to the Republican message, that the party is in trouble, and they still don’t get it. We will see more and more attempts to rig and steal elections by this party as they become increasing desperate to win power for fewer and fewer people.
