Sodo arena plan reveals eco-friendly design
Mariners’ competing interests
Is it not a bit disingenuous of the Seattle Mariners to even raise the objections to the closure of a short section of Occidental Avenue South and about 80 feet of South Massachusetts Street during event times at the proposed new arena [“Latests Sodo arena plan is an eco-friendly design,” NWWednesday, Jan. 23]?
I would ask them if this is the only arena that “poses challenges” or that “there are competing needs for the streets”? (quote from a Mariners attorney)
I would ask the Mariners just what happens near Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field to the six-block section of Occidental South between South Royal Brougham Way all the way to King Street during 82 baseball games and at least 8 football games. Closed. Not to mention all the other side streets and tailgating areas that are already closed during these times and for other larger events.
Come on Mariners. We love ya, but get real.
