Editorial a bit of a stretch

I grew up in Washington, D.C., and have now lived in Seattle for eight years, and reading you’re the editorial on the “Seahawks’ ‘Great Finish’ ” [Editorial, Jan. 8], I have to admit it seems a little disingenuous.

To say that Washington’s early scores were “fluky” and that Seahawk defenders “shut down” the Washington offense is a bit of a stretch. One could easily argue that the Seahawks received a gift (as Steve Kelly put it in his column on Monday) when Mike Shanahan didn’t remove Robert Griffin III, under whose leadership the Redskins marched right through the Seahawks’ defense.

Indeed, had their offense been at full strength under Kirk Cousins for the remainder of the game, who’s to say that the result would not have been different?

Of course, one will never know, and I will certainly be rooting for the Seahawks against the Falcons and a nimble Matt Ryan, but I hope when once again facing a solid offense at full strength (which they did not do for the final three quarters), the Seahawks’ defense performs much better, or it will be a sad day for me and the other Seahawks fans. Go Hawks!
