DOT plans to add third I-5 lane
Poor planning
The state Department of Transportation knows already that the traffic will get worse on Interstate 5 when a toll tunnel goes in on Highway 99, and it knows that the traffic is worse on Interstate 90 from Interstate 405 into Seattle because of the high toll on the new 520 bridge [“It will cost $23M to add third I-5 lane, state says,” NWWednesday, Jan. 1].
That traffic feeds into I-90 going north, which is already very crowded. So why does DOT keep creating toll charges? Those tolls won't help pay for widening I-5 even as DOT creates more need for an additional lane on I-5. Seems like poor planning.
