New Senate coalition in Washington Legislature
A pox on them all
In “Dems seek Owen’s help in Senate transition” [NWSaturday, Dec. 22], “Demoncrats” Rodney Tom and Tim Sheldon are nothing but brazen opportunists and traitors to their party and should be expelled, but the Dems are spineless. They are DINOs (Democrats in name only).
The Republicans, on the other hand, are equally despicable and undeserving of the word “honorable” for being complicit and equally opportunistic. All Senators, Democrats and Republicans, deserve our collective scorn.
Avelino Reyrao, Renton
Constituents ill-served
Rodney Tom can rationalize all he wants to defend his alliance with the Republicans in the state Senate. [“Political maverick flexes his muscles in Olympia,” NWSunday, Dec. 23.]The reality is, he broke faith with his constituents in the 48th District who voted him into office. I suspect he would not have won his last election if we had known what he was planning.
It may be that voters say they want “politicians setting aside party labels to work together.” Working together is a good thing; a major power grab with results I don’t support is not a good thing.
It appears we misplaced our trust that Tom would do his best for us.
Dorothy Simpson, Redmond
It’s about power
Sadly, Rodney Tom’s insistence that he is above partisanship rings hollow. If that were true, he and his colleague would have divided the powerful committee chairs evenly, rather than giving all of them to the Republicans.
This emperor is wearing no clothes. He really is about power and clearly relishes the control he now has. At this point, no one can trust him, so I advise his colleagues on what is now both sides of the aisle to be careful. Next time, I will vote for anyone rather than this man.
