Legalization of same-sex marriage in Washington

Historic day for all
The headline “A historic day for same-sex couples” [Editorials, Dec. 6] is far too narrow. The achievement of greater equality benefits all members of society, not just those realizing immediate benefits.

Dec. 6 was a historic day for all citizens of Washington — yes, even for those who voted against Referendum 74, as they and their children will someday come to understand.

—Phil Bereano, Seattle
