Need for adequate fee-collecting system
Why was RapidRide launched before we had an adequate fee-collecting system in place? [“RapidRide buses not so fast everywhere,” page one, Nov. 28]. I am very concerned about uncollected RapidRide fees.
Weren’t the ride-free zones canceled because the fees are badly needed? Metro Transit is an expensive and essential system. I gave up my car more than ten 10 years ago because I’ve been able to count on taking the bus. I don’t want to lose any more bus service or see another fee hike when we are not doing everything possible to collect every single fee.

I wish all Metro Transit drivers would be vigilant about asking passengers to pay. Sometimes I hear the recorded message about exiting the bus through the rear doors. How about adding “Metro Transit needs your support. If you entered the bus without paying, please pay before exiting the bus.” Of course, the drivers would have to be willing to play the recording.

Last week I asked a RapidRide driver about allowing people on his bus without paying. He shrugged. Surely there’s a better answer.
