Lincoln's Thanksgiving is a matter of controversy
Projecting racism
I find it offensive that Leonard Pitts calls Abraham Lincoln, a “white supremacist” [“The defiant spirit of Thanksgiving,” Opinion, Nov. 22]. I don’t know about anybody else, but it seems to me that Pitts, whose column I generally like, and a writer I normally have respect for, is using his column to further perpetuate and fuel discord and racism.
But, I suppose, one can say that without keeping discord and racism alive, Pitts would be out of job. So, he fuels the fire with his words in his column by projecting onto President Lincoln what today we abhor in extremism.
