No single solution
Anyone who suggests that there is a single answer to traffic troubles is like a doctor who swears that there is a single medicine to heal all suffering [“What’s one big fix for frightful traffic?,” Opinion, Nov. 18].

To say that there is one single solution is to disqualify your views for serious consideration in the discussion.

Reflective gear for bicyclist safety
Safety for both the bicyclist and the driver is needed. The bicyclists are sharing the road with cars but are not sharing the responsibility for their own safety by wearing reflective gear. How many of us, while driving our car in the rain and dark, have come close to hitting a bicyclist who has little or no lighting on themselves or the bicycle.

Rather than advocate for more bike paths as the Cascade Bicycle Club director did in “Connect city with network of bikeways” [Opinion, Nov. 18], they should advocate neon vests, more LED lights on the bike frame and larger lights both in front and back of the bicyclists and their bicycle.

I am a bicyclist but riding a bike on a rain-slick street with little visibility, water running down my face obscuring my vision, is not, in my opinion, helping the environment, mental health or physical health of either the driver or the bicyclist. Nor is it saving money for the Seattle economy, given the number of bicyclists who have died or been gravely injured.
