Tent city struggles during winter
Community support to Nickelsville residents needed
For those who do not know about the homeless encampment Nickelsville and how it is seen as a sore eye in society, I am writing this letter to raise your awareness on this issue.
At this moment Nickelsville provides running water, electricity and plumbing in a place to stay for those who struggle to find financial stability. However, there is a bigger problem. According to “As tent city struggles, Seattle has no easy answers on homeless” [NWSunday, August 19], the quick approaching winter is making life tough for the residents of Nickelsville.
In order to solve the winter issue, we need to raise awareness through the community and seek out residences willing to shelter the individuals and families who call Nickelsville home. This would keep the inhabitants from spending their winter evenings outside with nothing but a tent to shelter them from the freezing conditions and put them in a place they can feel comfortable spending their winter in.
As a community I believe we have the power to help, it’s just a matter of knowing how and where help is needed.
