BP held responsible for oil spill
Settlement is unsatisfying
Just another instance of slicing one’s nose to spite their face [“BP to pay $4.5 billion, execs charged in oil spill,” page one, Nov. 16].
Before everyone dances in glee that BP, one of those awful oil companies, has been fined, remember that companies do not pay these fines or taxes. They merely pass them on to the consumers (aka people).
The bottom line is that all the other oil companies will be less likely to hold the line on prices as BP is forced to raise theirs.
