Rachel Corrie's death an inspiration for peace efforts
Need to work together to end apartheid
The article written by Wendy Rosen takes some liberties with the truth [“Honor Rachel Corrie with real peace,” Opinion, Oct. 9].
Rosen does not mention the oppressive Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands for more than 60 years which has led to wall and private road building by Israel. This in turn has led to the destruction of homes and orchards as well as the moral fiber destruction of families in both Palestine and Israel as this ethnic cleansing has continued. Some 300 homes and orchards have been destroyed in 2012.
Rosen speaks of “opponents of Israel” and “Israel haters.” She does not recognize that those who work for peace and justice want the same for Israel as they do for Palestine: freedom, security, justice and the opportunity to share the land. Those who “interfere” ask that each person treat others as they would like to be treated.
It is important that we understand and work together to end this apartheid situation by boycotting Israeli products made on occupied land and call for a boycott of Israel until they abide by the laws of the United Nations.
