More recognition for state education needed

As a retired Washington state educator, I was pleased to read the article about our Washington state students achieving the highest SAT scores in the nation tied with Vermont [“Washington students buck trend on SAT,” News, Sept. 25].

I'm disappointed that article was not placed on the front page of the paper. It seems that teachers and education in this state frequently get a “bad rap.” It's important that the public in our state hear about this kind of good news about our education system. Also our hard-working teachers should be recognized for such achievement.

In my humble opinion, one of the reasons that our students achieved this status is due to the WASL that our students no longer need to take as it was revised several years ago. The studentswho took this SAT test were a product of the WASL testing. Our current superintendent of public instruction should be aware of this result as he ran against continuing the WASL.
