Spokane lawmaker Cathy McMorris Rodgers promotes GOP's message
Protection for all women
Thank you, Seattle Times, for the insightful article about our Spokane-area Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers [“Spokane lawmaker emerges as telegenic GOP messenger,” NWSunday, Aug. 26].
It was helpful to understand her thinking and actions in the U.S. House of Representatives. However, I have been working on the Violence Against Women Act, and am mystified at her quote given in the paper.
The act funds police and criminal units that seek to protect women — all women — and her quote about adding lesbian women to the act was: “It is a political stunt by Democrats.”
Has anyone sat down and spoken with McMorris Rodgers about protecting our sisters who are lesbians in the same way we protect other sisters. This act is for all women, not just blondes and brunettes! This act is not a “stunt.”
Please, will someone talk to McMorris Rodgers about protecting all women from violence?
