Referendum 74: same-sex marriage debate

The difference between right and wrong

In his letter, published Thursday, Aug. 23, Rev. Brooke Rolston is way off base! [“Appealing to voters fears,” Northwest Voices].

If he really knows his Bible, he would know that God created man and woman; He created Adam and Eve, and not Adam and Steve, or Eve and Yvette! Marriage is intended to be between one man and one woman, and anything else is unnatural and immoral!

The “hearts” the reverend is referring to are the bleeding hearts of the wimpy liberals who give in to the demands and the whining of the militant homosexual lobby and their misguided fellow travelers!

If we straights who know the difference between right and wrong have “fears,” it is for the destruction of our moral fabric and our traditional values by these people!

May I point out that no culture that has embraced homosexuality has ever survived! A prime example of this was the Roman Empire. Also, the Third Reich; while Adolf Hitler preached against homosexuality, this practice ran rampart during his regime, particularly in the Nazi army.

So, I and hopefully many others who know the difference between right and wrong will show the courage of our convictions and vote no on Referendum 74!

— Doug Parker, Tacoma

What’s best for the children?

The marriage debate can be boiled down to one simple question: What is best for the children?

The defense-of-marriage movement isn’t about denying dignity or equality for anyone, it’s about promoting the very best environment for raising children — the same kind of environment we wanted when we were kids.

A loving mom and dad is the most logical answer.

— Cliff Carlson, Seattle
