Race a possible factor in Gonzalez Washington Supreme Court election

Chase-the-rabbit legislation

The Seattle Times’ editorial, “Race and politics,” jumps on the media political bandwagon decrying the democratic voting process in the Bruce Danielson/Steve Gonzalez Washington Supreme Court race through screaming a projection of editorial white guilt on Washington voters [Opinion, Aug. 14].

So would The Times editors mandate an election with a double-blind election process where candidates have sanitized names, gender, picture and a prescribed campaign plan? Apparently so.

The good and honorable Danielson ran his campaign as he saw fit — voters responded accordingly. And now The Seattle Times calls for new Washington legislation — heaven help us.

Let Olympia concentrate on balancing the budget, instituting overdue reform and education reform. We don’t need The Times’ chase-the-rabbit legislation.

— James M. Olsen, Bainbridge Island
