A misleading “True” conclusion

The “true” conclusion rendered in “The Truth Needle” article on July 27 regarding dangerous working conditions for the striking recycling truck drivers is seriously misleading [“It’s true: Recycling workers face higher fatality rate,” page one].

Of the five fatalities cited in the Puget Sound region in seven years, only two involved truck drivers, and The Times gave no details. The Times offers four more examples around the state, only one of which involved a truck driver, “… after his truck rolled over him.”

I have been driving for 56 years, and no vehicle I operated has ever rolled over me. Without further detail, this case sounds very much like negligent carelessness, rather than a hazardous workplace. Only those who read the entire article will be aware of the full picture; those who merely noted the headline and the green “True” flag atop the Space Needle will be entirely deceived.

Bad call, Times.
