Gay-marriage debate
No need for further benefits
I do not believe attitudes are changing in the same-sex marriage debate [“Gay marriage support: Shift in attitudes?” page one, June 12].
I think the people of the United States of America still believe marriage is between one man and one woman; this was the result of voters in 32 out of 32 states.
I believe there would be no further benefits for gay and lesbian couples with a same-sex marriage law because they have already the benefits of marriage with domestic partnerships. This is as it needs to be for these couples; they would not gain anything with a same-sex marriage law.
I do agree with Chris Plante, regional coordinator for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), who was quoted in the article saying, “We are confident common sense will win out — that while our gay and lesbian friends have the right to live as they choose, they don’t have the right to redefine marriage.”
Marriage is between one man and one woman.
