Catholic church contraception mandate
Why the change of heart?
A contraception coverage mandate supporter bites the dust [“Catholic group snubs concession on birth control,” news, June 16].
They now don’t agree on what they initially agreed to; Sister Carol Keehan, who leads the Catholic Health Association, says the mandate would not (now) “adequately meet the religious liberty concerns.”
She does not indicate what would be adequate to her.
She went from comfortable to uncomfortable; I wonder if this change of comfort had anything to do with the crackdown from their men superiors.
I agree with Sister Simone Campbell that we should be highlighting the immorality of Republican Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget and its affect on the poor. And if the church feels so strongly about the use of contraception, preach its evils to the women sitting in the pews, then let’s see how many women and men will sit and listen.
